1. 1 Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog. Type 'winver' and press Enter. This shows your Windows version — make sure you're on the latest update. Outdated Windows can cause driver conflicts.
2. 2 Press Windows key + X and select 'Device Manager' from the menu. Expand 'Display adapters', right-click your graphics card, and select 'Uninstall device'. Check the box that says 'Delete the driver software for this device' and click Uninstall. This removes the current driver completely so we can install a fresh one.
3. 3 Restart your PC. Windows will automatically install a basic display driver. This is a clean slate.
4. 4 Go to your GPU manufacturer's website (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel) and download the latest driver for your specific model. For NVIDIA, go to nvidia.com/drivers; for AMD, amd.com/en/support. Use the auto-detect tool if you're unsure which driver you need.
5. 5 Install the driver by running the downloaded file. Choose 'Custom Installation' and check 'Perform a clean installation'. This ensures no old driver files remain. Follow the on-screen instructions and restart when prompted.
6. 6 After reboot, open the game and test. If the error persists, press Windows key + R, type 'eventvwr' and press Enter. Go to Windows Logs → System and look for 'Display' or 'nvlddmkm' errors. These logs tell you exactly why the driver crashed — often it's a hardware issue like overheating.
7. 7 If you have an overclocked GPU (using MSI Afterburner or similar), reset it to default clock speeds. Overclocking can cause instability. Open the overclocking software and click 'Reset' or set the sliders to default.
