1. 1 First, check if you are currently offline. Look at the network icon in the system tray (bottom-right corner). If it shows a red X or a globe with a warning, you're offline. Try reconnecting to your network by clicking the icon and selecting your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. If you're on a VPN, ensure it's connected.
2. 2 Open File Explorer and navigate to the folder that contains the file. Right-click on the file and select 'Properties'. Go to the 'Offline Files' tab (if available) and click 'Synchronize Now'. This forces Windows to sync the file with the server. If the option is grayed out, you may need to go to Control Panel and open 'Sync Center'.
3. 3 To open Sync Center, press Windows key + R, type 'control /name Microsoft.SyncCenter' and press Enter. In Sync Center, you'll see a list of sync partnerships. Click on 'View sync results' to see if there are any errors. If there are, right-click on the sync partnership and select 'Sync Now' to retry.
4. 4 If the file is still not accessible, you may need to take the file offline permanently. Right-click on the file, select 'Properties', go to the 'Offline Files' tab, and click 'Make Available Offline' if it's not already. This will create a local copy. If it's already offline, try 'Always available offline' to ensure a local copy exists.
5. 5 If the issue persists, restart the Offline Files service. Press Windows key + R, type 'services.msc', and press Enter. Scroll down to 'Offline Files', right-click it, and select 'Restart'. This resets the service and may clear any stuck sync states.
