1. 1 First, check if the media is inserted correctly. For optical drives, push the disc in until it clicks. For USB drives, try a different port.
2. 2 Open File Explorer (Windows key + E) and see if the drive appears. If it doesn't, go to Device Manager. Press Windows key + X and select 'Device Manager'. Look for 'DVD/CD-ROM drives' or 'Disk drives'. If there's a yellow exclamation mark, the driver may be corrupted.
3. 3 Right-click the drive and select 'Uninstall device'. Then click 'Action' > 'Scan for hardware changes'. This reinstalls the driver.
4. 4 If the drive is a USB drive, try connecting it to another computer to see if it works. If it does, the issue is with your PC's USB port or driver.
5. 5 If the media is a CD/DVD, try cleaning it with a soft cloth. Scratches or dirt can make it unreadable.
6. 6 If you're using a virtual drive (like an ISO file), try mounting it again. Right-click the ISO file and select 'Mount'.
