1. 1 Press Windows key + R, type 'cmd', and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to open Command Prompt as Administrator. This gives you the necessary permissions.
2. 2 Type 'subst' and press Enter. This lists all virtual drive mappings. Identify if the folder you're trying to join is actually a virtual drive (e.g., Z:).
3. 3 If the folder is a virtual drive, you need to remove the substitution first. Use 'subst : /d' (e.g., 'subst Z: /d') to delete the virtual drive.
4. 4 Now you can create the junction using 'mklink /J ' (e.g., 'mklink /J C:\MyJunction D:\Data'). Make sure the target is a real folder path, not a virtual drive.
5. 5 Verify the junction works by accessing the path. If you still get the error, check if the target path is valid and accessible.
