1. 1 Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager. Go to the 'Processes' tab and look for any programs that might be using the resource. If you know which resource is causing the error (e.g., a specific file or device), try closing programs that might be using it. Right-click and select 'End task' for any suspicious processes.
2. 2 Restart your computer. This releases all locks and semaphores. After rebooting, try the operation again. This is often the quickest fix.
3. 3 If the error occurs in a specific application, check if it's running multiple instances. In Task Manager, look for multiple entries of the same program. If so, end all instances and restart the program. This ensures no duplicate processes are holding locks.
4. 4 If the error is related to a file, use Process Explorer (free from Microsoft) to find which process has the file open. Download and run Process Explorer, press Ctrl+F, and type the file name. It will show which process is using it. You can then close that process or restart it.
