1. 1 Identify the file or folder that already exists. The error message usually includes the path. If not, check the program's log files or use Process Monitor (download from Microsoft Sysinternals) to trace the exact file.
2. 2 If it's a temporary file, delete it. Press Win+R, type '%temp%' and press Enter. This opens the Temp folder. Select all files (Ctrl+A) and delete them. Some files may be in use; skip those. This clears leftover temp files that might cause conflicts.
3. 3 If the error occurs during installation, uninstall the program first. Go to Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find the program, and uninstall it. Then reinstall. This ensures no conflicting files remain.
4. 4 If you're saving a file and get this error, simply rename the file or choose a different folder. For example, if 'report.docx' exists, save as 'report_final.docx'.
5. 5 If the error persists, check for hidden or system files. In File Explorer, go to View → Show → Hidden items. Look for files with the same name in the target folder and delete or rename them.
