  1. 1 Boot into Safe Mode: Press Windows key + I → System → Recovery → Advanced startup → Restart now. Then choose Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Restart. Press 4. In Safe Mode, open Device Manager (Win+X → Device Manager). Look for devices with a yellow exclamation mark. These are problematic devices. Right-click and select Uninstall device. Check 'Delete the driver software for this device' if available. Restart. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.
  2. 2 If you recently installed new hardware, remove it and see if the error stops. If it does, the hardware is incompatible or faulty. Check the manufacturer's website for updated drivers or firmware.
  3. 3 Run System File Checker: Open Command Prompt as admin (right-click Start → Windows Terminal (Admin)). Type 'sfc /scannow' and press Enter. Then run 'DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth'. This repairs corrupted system files that might affect PnP.
  4. 4 Update all device drivers: In Device Manager, right-click each device and select Update driver → Search automatically. For critical devices like chipset, visit your motherboard manufacturer's website to download the latest chipset drivers.
  5. 5 Check the Windows event log for PnP errors: Press Windows key + R, type 'eventvwr' and press Enter. Go to Windows Logs → System. Look for errors with source 'Kernel-PnP'. Note the device that caused the error. Then update or remove that device.
  6. 6 If the error persists, use System Restore: Press Windows key + R, type 'rstrui' and press Enter. Choose a restore point before the issue started. This reverts system changes that might have caused the problem.
