1. 1 Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog. Type 'devmgmt.msc' (without quotes) and press Enter. This opens Device Manager, which lists all hardware connected to your PC. Look for a category called 'Floppy drive' or 'Floppy disk controllers'. If you see one, right-click it and select 'Disable device'. This tells Windows to ignore that hardware, preventing it from trying to access a non-existent floppy.
2. 2 If you don't see a floppy drive in Device Manager, open the BIOS/UEFI settings. Restart your PC and press the key shown on screen (often Del, F2, or F12) to enter setup. Look for a setting like 'Floppy Drive' or 'Legacy Diskette A' and set it to 'Disabled'. Save and exit. This prevents the system from even looking for a floppy drive during boot.
3. 3 Press Windows key + R, type 'regedit' and press Enter. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Flpydisk. If the 'Start' value is set to 1, change it to 4 (double-click 'Start', select 'Decimal', enter 4, click OK). This disables the floppy driver service. Restart your PC. This is a more advanced step, so be careful not to change other values.
4. 4 If the error occurs when running a specific program, try running it in compatibility mode. Right-click the program's shortcut, select 'Properties', go to the 'Compatibility' tab, check 'Run this program in compatibility mode for', and choose an older Windows version like Windows 7. This can trick the program into thinking it has a floppy drive.
5. 5 As a last resort, use System File Checker. Open Command Prompt as administrator (press Windows key, type 'cmd', right-click 'Command Prompt', select 'Run as administrator'). Type 'sfc /scannow' and press Enter. This scans and repairs corrupted system files that might be causing the error.
