1. 1 Press Windows key + X and select 'Device Manager' from the menu. This opens a list of all hardware connected to your PC. Look for any device with a yellow exclamation mark — that indicates a problem. Right-click the problematic device and select 'Update driver'. Choose 'Search automatically for drivers'. This will search online for the correct driver and install it. If Windows doesn't find one, go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest driver manually.
2. 2 If updating the driver doesn't work, right-click the device in Device Manager and select 'Uninstall device'. Check the box that says 'Delete the driver software for this device' if available, then click Uninstall. Restart your PC. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver on boot. This clears any corrupted driver files.
3. 3 Press Windows key + R, type 'services.msc' and press Enter. Find 'Plug and Play' service. Right-click it and select 'Restart'. This service manages hardware detection. Restarting it can resolve temporary glitches.
4. 4 Run the Windows Hardware and Devices troubleshooter. Press Windows key + I to open Settings, go to System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters. Find 'Hardware and Devices' and click 'Run'. Follow the on-screen instructions. This tool automatically detects and fixes common hardware issues.
5. 5 If the problem persists, check if the device works on another PC. If it doesn't, the device itself may be faulty. If it works, the issue is with your system. Try a System Restore: press Windows key + R, type 'rstrui' and press Enter. Choose a restore point before the problem started and follow the prompts.
