1. 1 Identify which connections are active: open Command Prompt as administrator and run 'net use' to list all network drives and connections. Note the ones that are in use.
2. 2 Close any programs that might be using the network resource, such as file explorers, word processors, or media players. If you're trying to disconnect a drive, make sure no files are open from that drive.
3. 3 If you need to force disconnect, run 'net use * /delete /y' to forcefully disconnect all network drives. This will close any open connections, but be aware that unsaved work on those drives may be lost.
4. 4 If the error occurs when changing IP settings, ensure no applications are using the network (like downloads or streaming). You can also restart the network adapter: in Device Manager, right-click your adapter and select 'Disable', then 'Enable'.
5. 5 If the error persists, restart your PC to clear all network connections.
