1. 1 First, restart your PC. This clears any temporary states that might be causing the cancellation. After restart, go to Settings → Windows Update and click 'Check for updates' to see if the error is gone.
2. 2 If the error persists, run the Windows Update Troubleshooter: Press Windows key + I to open Settings, go to System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters, find 'Windows Update' and click 'Run'. This tool automatically detects and fixes common update issues.
3. 3 Clear the Windows Update cache: Press Windows key + R, type 'cmd', and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to run as administrator. Type 'net stop wuauserv' and press Enter, then 'net stop bits' and press Enter. This stops the update services. Then, open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution. Delete all contents of that folder (you may need to take ownership). Finally, restart the services by typing 'net start wuauserv' and 'net start bits' in the same command prompt.
4. 4 Check for pending updates that might be stuck: In Settings → Windows Update, click 'Update history' and see if any updates failed. If so, try uninstalling the problematic update (if possible) and then reinstall it.
5. 5 If all else fails, use the Windows Update Assistant from Microsoft's website to manually install the latest feature update.
