1. 1 First, verify that your current driver is indeed newer: Press Win+X and select 'Device Manager'. Expand the relevant category (e.g., Display adapters, Network adapters). Right-click the device and select 'Properties'. Go to the 'Driver' tab and note the Driver Version and Date. Compare this with the version Windows is trying to install.
2. 2 If your current driver is newer, you can safely ignore this error. To prevent Windows from offering the older driver again, you can hide the update using the 'Show or hide updates' troubleshooter from Microsoft. Download it from Microsoft's website and run it. Click 'Next', then 'Hide updates', and select the problematic driver. This will hide it from Windows Update.
3. 3 Alternatively, you can change the device installation settings: Press Win+R, type 'sysdm.cpl', and press Enter. Go to the 'Hardware' tab and click 'Device Installation Settings'. Choose 'No' to prevent Windows from automatically downloading driver updates from Windows Update. This stops the error from appearing, but also prevents automatic driver updates.
4. 4 If you want to keep automatic updates but avoid this specific error, you can use Group Policy (Windows Pro/Enterprise): Press Win+R, type 'gpedit.msc', and press Enter.
