1. 1 First, check if the error is specific to a particular application. If so, try restarting that application. Sometimes a temporary glitch causes the error. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, find the application under 'Processes', right-click it, and select 'End task'. Then relaunch it.
2. 2 If the error occurs during startup, perform a clean boot to disable third-party services and startup programs that might interfere. Press Windows key + R, type 'msconfig', and press Enter. Go to the 'Services' tab, check 'Hide all Microsoft services', then click 'Disable all'. Go to the 'Startup' tab and click 'Open Task Manager'. Disable all startup items. Restart your PC. If the error goes away, gradually re-enable services and startup items to find the culprit.
3. 3 If the error is related to a script or command, try running it in a different environment. For example, if you're using PowerShell, try Command Prompt. Sometimes the issue is with the shell.
4. 4 Check for malware. Run a full system scan with Windows Defender or your preferred antivirus. Malware can interfere with process management. Press Windows key + I, go to Privacy & Security → Windows Security → Virus & threat protection, and click 'Scan options'. Select 'Full scan' and click 'Scan now'.
