1. 1 First, close unnecessary programs. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager. Look at the 'Memory' column and sort by it. Right-click any program you're not using and select 'End task'. This frees up RAM immediately.
2. 2 Check for memory leaks. In Task Manager, go to the 'Processes' tab and look for programs using an unusually high amount of memory. If a program's memory usage keeps increasing over time, it may have a leak. Update or reinstall that program.
3. 3 Increase virtual memory. Press Windows key + R, type 'sysdm.cpl', and press Enter. Go to the 'Advanced' tab, click 'Settings' under Performance, then go to the 'Advanced' tab again and click 'Change' under Virtual memory. Uncheck 'Automatically manage paging file size for all drives', select your system drive, choose 'Custom size', and set Initial size and Maximum size to 1.5 times your RAM (e.g., if you have 8 GB RAM, set both to 12288 MB). Click 'Set' and 'OK'.
