1. 1 Press Windows key + R, type 'cmd', and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to open Command Prompt as administrator. This gives you the ability to run disk repair commands.
2. 2 Run 'chkdsk C: /f' and press Enter. If prompted to schedule a check, type 'Y' and restart. This scans and fixes file system errors, which can repair EA inconsistencies.
3. 3 If chkdsk doesn't fix it, you may need to clear the EA list. Use the command 'fsutil file seteafile C:\path\to\file' but this is advanced. Instead, try copying the file to a new location and back, which often resets the EA list.
4. 4 To copy the file, open File Explorer, right-click the file, select 'Copy', then go to a different folder and press Ctrl+V. Then delete the original and rename the copy to the original name. This creates a fresh file with a clean EA list.
5. 5 If the error persists, consider using the System File Checker: run 'sfc /scannow' to repair system files that might be causing the issue.
