1. 1 Press Windows key + R, type "sysdm.cpl", and press Enter. This opens System Properties. Go to the 'Remote' tab. Ensure 'Allow remote connections to this computer' is checked. This is the basic setting to allow RDP.
2. 2 Click 'Select Users' and add the user account that needs access. Click 'Add', type the username, and click 'Check Names' to verify. This grants the user permission to connect.
3. 3 If the user is an administrator, they may already have access, but it's good to add them explicitly.
4. 4 Check the Local Security Policy. Press Windows key + R, type "secpol.msc", and press Enter. Navigate to Local Policies → User Rights Assignment. Find 'Allow log on through Remote Desktop Services'. Ensure the user or group is listed. If not, add them.
5. 5 Also check 'Deny log on through Remote Desktop Services' to make sure the user is not denied.
6. 6 If the error occurs when trying to shadow, refer to the previous fix for shadowing permissions.
7. 7 Restart the Remote Desktop Services service. Press Windows key + R, type "services.msc", and press Enter. Find 'Remote Desktop Services', right-click, and select 'Restart'.
