1. 1 Press Windows key + R, type 'lusrmgr.msc', and press Enter. This opens Local Users and Groups Manager. If you're on Windows 11 Home, you may need to use Command Prompt instead (we'll cover that).
2. 2 In the left pane, click on 'Users'. Find your user account in the middle pane. Double-click it to open properties.
3. 3 In the properties window, go to the 'General' tab. Look for the checkbox 'Account is disabled'. If it's checked, uncheck it and click OK. This re-enables your account for logon.
4. 4 If you're on Windows 11 Home, use Command Prompt: Press Windows key + X and select 'Terminal (Admin)'. Type 'net user [username] /active:yes' (replace [username] with your actual username) and press Enter. This activates the account.
5. 5 Check if the account has logon hours restrictions: In the same properties window, go to the 'Dial-in' tab (if present) or use 'net user [username] /times:all' to allow logon at all times. This ensures the account isn't blocked by time-based policies.
6. 6 After enabling the account, try connecting via Remote Desktop again. If the error persists, check Group Policy: Press Windows key + R, type 'gpedit.msc', and press Enter. Navigate to Computer Configuration → Windows Settings → Security Settings → Local Policies → User Rights Assignment. Find 'Allow log on through Remote Desktop Services' and ensure your account is in the list.
