1. 1 First, try logging off and back on. Press Windows key + L to lock your screen, then click your profile and log in again. This refreshes your logon session.
2. 2 If that doesn't work, restart your PC. Sometimes a simple reboot clears temporary session issues.
3. 3 Check if your user profile is corrupted: Press Windows key + R, type 'regedit', and press Enter. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList. Look for a key that ends with '.bak' — if you see one, your profile might be corrupted. Rename it by removing the '.bak' extension (but only if you're sure). This is risky, so create a restore point first.
4. 4 Create a new user profile: Go to Settings → Accounts → Family & other users → Add account. Create a new local account, then log into it and copy your files from the old profile. This is a safer fix.
5. 5 If the error occurs with a specific app, try running it as administrator: Right-click the app and select 'Run as administrator'.
