1. 1 Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager. Go to the 'Processes' tab and look for any program that might be using the file in question. If you know which file is causing the error, try closing the application that uses it. If you're unsure, restart your PC to release all file locks.
2. 2 Press Windows key + R, type 'services.msc' and press Enter. Look for services that might be locking files, such as 'Windows Search', 'Windows Update', or 'Antivirus services'. Right-click on them and select 'Stop'. This releases any locks they have on files. After the operation, you can restart them.
3. 3 Press Windows key + X and select 'Windows Terminal (Admin)'. Run the command 'sfc /scannow' to repair system files that might be corrupted and causing sharing violations. Then run 'DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth' to repair the system image.
4. 4 If the error occurs during Windows Update, restart the Windows Update service. Open Command Prompt as admin and type 'net stop wuauserv' then 'net start wuauserv'. This restarts the service and clears any locks.
5. 5 If the error persists, check if the file is set to read-only. Right-click the file, select 'Properties', and uncheck 'Read-only' under the General tab. Also, ensure you have full control permissions: go to the 'Security' tab, click 'Advanced', and ensure your user account has 'Full control'.
