1. 1 Press Windows key + R, type 'eventvwr.msc', and press Enter. In Event Viewer, go to Windows Logs → System. Look for errors with source 'BugCheck' and note the bug check code. Also, check for any warnings from the 'disk' or 'ntfs' sources that might indicate disk issues.
2. 2 Press Windows key + X and select 'Device Manager'. Look for devices with a yellow exclamation mark. Right-click and select 'Update driver'. If that doesn't help, right-click and select 'Uninstall device', then restart your PC. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.
3. 3 Press Windows key + I to open Settings. Go to Windows Update → Advanced options → Optional updates. Install any driver updates. If you recently installed a driver, try rolling it back: Device Manager → right-click device → Properties → Driver → Roll Back Driver.
4. 4 Press Windows key + X and select 'Windows Terminal (Admin)'. Run 'sfc /scannow' and then 'DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth'. These will repair system files.
5. 5 If the error persists, run a disk check. Open Windows Terminal (Admin) and type 'chkdsk C: /f /r' and press Enter. You'll need to restart your PC to let it run. This checks for and fixes disk errors that could cause reference count issues.
6. 6 If the problem continues, use Driver Verifier to identify problematic drivers. Press Windows key + R, type 'verifier', and press Enter. Follow the wizard to create standard settings, then restart. If Driver Verifier finds a driver, it will cause a BSOD with the driver name. Note the driver and update or remove it.
