1. 1 Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager. Go to the 'Processes' tab and click the 'Network' column to sort by network usage. Look for any process using more than 1 Mbps. Common culprits: Windows Update, Steam, Epic Games Launcher, OneDrive, or antivirus. If you see one, right-click and 'End task' to stop it. This immediately frees up bandwidth.
2. 2 Press Windows key + I to open Settings. Go to 'Windows Update' → 'Advanced options' → 'Delivery Optimization'. Turn off 'Allow downloads from other PCs'. This prevents Windows from using your bandwidth to send updates to other computers, which can cause ping spikes.
3. 3 Check if your router has Quality of Service (QoS) settings. Log into your router (usually via a web browser at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) and enable QoS, prioritizing your gaming device. This ensures your game gets bandwidth priority over other traffic.
4. 4 If you're on Wi-Fi, switch to Ethernet. Wi-Fi can have interference from other devices, causing sudden ping spikes. A wired connection is more stable.
5. 5 Run a continuous ping to your game server to see if the spike is constant or intermittent. Use 'ping -t [server IP]' in Command Prompt. If you see spikes, note the time—if they happen at regular intervals, it might be a background process on your PC or a router issue.
6. 6 Update your network adapter driver. Go to Device Manager (Windows key + X → Device Manager), expand 'Network adapters', right-click your adapter, and select 'Update driver'. Outdated drivers can cause network instability.
