1. 1 Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager. Find the game in the Processes tab, right-click it, and select End Task. This closes the game so you can make changes. If the game is unresponsive, this is the only way to close it.
2. 2 Restart your PC. Sometimes a simple restart clears the graphics driver's temporary glitch. After restarting, try launching the game again. If it still shows a black screen, proceed.
3. 3 Launch the game in windowed mode. In your game launcher (Steam, etc.), right-click the game → Properties → General → Launch Options. Type '-windowed' (without quotes) and launch the game. This forces the game to run in a window, which often bypasses the black screen. If it works, you can change the resolution in the game's settings to match your monitor.
