1. 1 Press Windows key + R, type 'eventvwr.msc', and press Enter. In Event Viewer, go to 'Windows Logs' → 'Application'. Look for error events with source 'Application Error' or 'Windows Error Reporting' around the time of the crash. Note the faulting module name (e.g., 'ntdll.dll' or a specific .exe). This tells you which component caused the timer issue.
2. 2 Press Windows key + X and select 'Device Manager'. Expand categories like 'Display adapters', 'Network adapters', and 'Sound, video and game controllers'. Right-click each device and select 'Update driver' → 'Search automatically for drivers'. Outdated or buggy drivers often cause timer mismanagement. Update all critical drivers, especially chipset and graphics.
3. 3 Press Windows key + R, type 'msconfig', and press Enter. Go to the 'Services' tab, check 'Hide all Microsoft services', then click 'Disable all'. Go to the 'Startup' tab and click 'Open Task Manager'. Disable all startup items. Restart your PC. This performs a clean boot, which prevents third-party services from interfering. If the error stops, a background service is the culprit.
4. 4 After clean boot, if the error is gone, gradually enable services and startup items (in msconfig and Task Manager) to identify the problematic one. Once found, uninstall or update that software.
5. 5 Restart your PC normally (uncheck 'Hide all Microsoft services' and re-enable all services if you disabled them).
