1. 1 Press Windows key + R, type 'control' and press Enter to open Control Panel. Go to 'Devices and Printers' and click 'Add a printer'. This is where you can manually add a network printer. If you see an error, it might be due to blocked connections.
2. 2 Check the Windows Firewall: press Windows key, type 'Windows Defender Firewall', and open it. Click 'Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall'. Look for 'File and Printer Sharing' and ensure both Private and Public checkboxes are checked. This allows your PC to communicate with the printer.
3. 3 If the firewall is not the issue, check the Print Spooler service: press Windows key + R, type 'services.msc', and find 'Print Spooler'. Ensure it is running and set to Automatic. Restart it if necessary. The Print Spooler manages all print jobs, and if it's not running, printing fails.
4. 4 Open Group Policy Editor (if you have Windows Pro or Enterprise): press Windows key + R, type 'gpedit.msc'. Navigate to Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Printers. Look for 'Allow remote printing' or similar policies and set them to 'Enabled' or 'Not Configured'. This removes restrictions that block remote print connections.
5. 5 If you're on a domain, check with your IT admin if there are group policies blocking remote printing. They may need to adjust settings on the server side.
