1. 1 Press Windows key + R, type 'cmd' and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to open Command Prompt as administrator. This allows you to view and remove drive mappings.
2. 2 Type 'subst' and press Enter. This lists all current drive substitutions and joins. Look for any entries that might be causing the conflict.
3. 3 If you see a mapping that you no longer need, remove it by typing 'subst [drive letter]: /d' (replace [drive letter] with the actual letter). For example, 'subst X: /d'. This deletes the virtual drive mapping.
4. 4 Alternatively, open Disk Management by pressing Windows key + X and selecting 'Disk Management'. Look for any drives that show as 'Joined' or have unusual paths. Right-click and select 'Change Drive Letters and Paths', then remove the join.
5. 5 Restart your computer to ensure all changes take effect.
6. 6 If the error persists, check if any startup scripts or group policies recreate the join. Look in Task Scheduler or Group Policy Editor for scripts that use 'subst'.
