1. 1 Press Windows key + R, type 'cmd', and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to open Command Prompt as administrator. Type 'chkdsk C: /f' and press Enter. If prompted to schedule a check on restart, type 'Y' and restart. This checks and fixes disk errors that might cause invalid handles.
2. 2 If the error occurs with a specific file, try copying the file to a new location and opening it from there. This can bypass any corrupted file handles. Use File Explorer to copy the file to your Desktop and try opening it.
3. 3 Update the driver for the device that might be causing the issue. Open Device Manager (Win+X, select Device Manager), find the device, right-click and select 'Update driver'. Choose 'Search automatically for drivers'. This ensures the driver uses valid handles.
4. 4 If the error occurs in a program, try running it as administrator. Right-click the program's shortcut and select 'Run as administrator'. This gives the program the necessary permissions to create valid handles.
5. 5 If the error persists, perform a clean boot to rule out software conflicts. Press Win+R, type 'msconfig', and press Enter. In the Services tab, check 'Hide all Microsoft services' and click 'Disable all'. Then in the Startup tab, click 'Open Task Manager' and disable all startup items. Restart and try the action again.
