1. 1 Open Windows Security by pressing Windows key + I, then go to 'Privacy & security' → 'Windows Security' → 'Virus & threat protection'. Click 'Protection history' to see a list of detected threats. Look for the file that was deleted and note its location.
2. 2 If the file was a false positive, you need to restore it. In 'Protection history', click on the threat and select 'Restore'. This puts the file back. Then, to prevent it from being deleted again, add the file or folder to the exclusions list: go to 'Virus & threat protection settings' → 'Exclusions' → 'Add or remove exclusions' → 'Add exclusion' → 'Folder' and select the folder containing the file.
3. 3 If the file cannot be restored, you may need to reinstall the affected program. Uninstall it via Settings → Apps → Installed apps, then download the latest version from the official website and install it.
4. 4 Run a full system scan to ensure no other files are affected. In Windows Security, click 'Scan options' and select 'Full scan', then click 'Scan now'.
5. 5 If the error persists, the antivirus might be too aggressive. Consider switching to a different antivirus or adjusting the detection level. For Windows Defender, you can turn off 'Real-time protection' temporarily to test, but re-enable it immediately after.
