1. 1 First, identify which application is causing the error. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager. Look for any program that is 'Not responding' or using high CPU. Right-click it and select 'End task' to close it. This clears the stuck signal.
2. 2 If the error occurs during shutdown, it might be a driver issue. Press Win+X and select 'Device Manager'. Expand 'Keyboards' and 'Mice and other pointing devices'. Right-click each device and select 'Update driver'. Outdated drivers can cause signal handling problems.
3. 3 Run the Windows Performance Recorder to capture what's happening. Press Win+R, type 'perfmon /rel' and press Enter. This opens Reliability Monitor, which shows a timeline of errors. Look for patterns — if the error happens after a specific event, that's your clue.
4. 4 If the error is from a specific application, try running it in compatibility mode. Right-click the executable, select 'Properties', go to the 'Compatibility' tab, and check 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' and select an older Windows version. This can resolve signal handling issues.
5. 5 Check for pending Windows updates. Press Win+I to open Settings, go to 'Windows Update', and click 'Check for updates'. Install any available updates, as they often fix bugs related to signal handling.
