1. 1 Press Windows key + E to open File Explorer. Right-click on the C: drive and select 'Properties'. Check the free space. If it's low (less than 10 GB), free up space by deleting temporary files or moving files to another drive.
2. 2 Press Windows key + R, type 'sysdm.cpl', and press Enter. Go to the 'Advanced' tab, under 'Performance', click 'Settings'. In the Performance Options, go to the 'Advanced' tab, and under 'Virtual memory', click 'Change'. Ensure 'Automatically manage paging file size for all drives' is checked. If not, check it and click 'Set'.
3. 3 If the automatic setting is already on, try manually setting the page file. Uncheck 'Automatically manage', select the C: drive, choose 'Custom size', and set Initial size to 1024 MB and Maximum size to 4096 MB (or 1.5 times your RAM). Click 'Set' and 'OK'. Restart your PC.
4. 4 Press Windows key + X and select 'Disk Management'. Look for any drives with errors. Right-click the C: drive and select 'Properties' → 'Tools' → 'Check'. This scans for file system errors that might prevent page file creation.
5. 5 Press Windows key + R, type 'cmd', and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to open Command Prompt as admin. Type 'chkdsk C: /f /r' and press Enter. You'll be prompted to schedule a check on restart. Restart your PC and let it run. This repairs disk errors.
6. 6 If the error persists, disable and re-enable the page file. Go back to Virtual Memory settings, uncheck 'Automatically manage', select 'No paging file' for C:, click 'Set', and restart. Then re-enable it with automatic management and restart again.
