- 1 Press Windows key + R, type 'sysdm.cpl', and press Enter. Go to the 'Advanced' tab, under 'Performance', click 'Settings'. In the Performance Options, go to the 'Advanced' tab, and under 'Virtual memory', click 'Change'. Ensure 'Automatically manage paging file size for all drives' is checked. If not, check it and click 'Set'.
- 2 If it's already checked, try unchecking it, then select the C: drive, choose 'System managed size', and click 'Set'. Then click 'OK' and restart your PC.
- 3 If the page file is set to 'None', change it to 'System managed size' or 'Custom size'. For custom, set Initial size to 1024 MB and Maximum size to 4096 MB (or 1.5 times your RAM). Click 'Set' and 'OK'.
- 4 Press Windows key + R, type 'cmd', and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to open Command Prompt as admin. Type 'wmic pagefile list /format:list' and press Enter. This shows the current page file configuration. If nothing appears, the page file is not set.
- 5 If the page file is on a drive that's not available (like a removable drive), move it to the C: drive. In Virtual Memory settings, select the C: drive and set it as the page file location.
- 6 Run a disk check. Press Windows key + X and select 'Disk Management'. Right-click the C: drive, select 'Properties' → 'Tools' → 'Check'. This fixes any disk errors that might prevent page file creation.
