- 1 Press Windows key + R, type 'gpedit.msc' and press Enter. If gpedit.msc is not found (Windows Home), skip to step 4. In the Local Group Policy Editor, navigate to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Application Control Policies > AppLocker. If AppLocker is not configured, you may see a message saying 'AppLocker is not configured'. If it is configured, check the rules under 'Executable Rules', 'Windows Installer Rules', and 'Script Rules'.
- 2 Look for any rules that might be blocking the specific program. Right-click on the rule and select 'Disable' or 'Delete'. Be careful not to disable all rules, as that could weaken security. If you are unsure, you can temporarily disable AppLocker by right-clicking on 'AppLocker' and selecting 'Properties', then unchecking 'Configure rule enforcement' for all rule types.
- 3 If you don't have AppLocker, check Software Restriction Policies. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Software Restriction Policies. If there is a policy, double-click on 'Enforcement' and ensure it is set to 'All software files except libraries' and 'All users'. Also check 'Designated File Types' and remove any file types that might be causing issues.
- 4 If you don't have Group Policy Editor, edit the registry. Press Windows key + R, type 'regedit' and press Enter. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Safer\CodeIdentifiers. If the key exists, look for a DWORD named 'DefaultLevel'. Set it to 0. Also look for 'TransparentEnabled' and set it to 0.
- 5 Also check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\AppLocker. If this key exists, you can delete it (after backing it up) to disable AppLocker policies. Right-click on 'AppLocker' and select 'Export' to save a backup, then delete the key.
- 6 Close the Registry Editor and restart your computer. After reboot, try running the program again.
