1. 1 First, update your graphics driver to the latest version. Press Windows key + X and select 'Device Manager'. Expand 'Display adapters', right-click your GPU, and select 'Update driver'. Choose 'Search automatically for drivers'. If Windows doesn't find a new one, visit the GPU manufacturer's website (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel) and download the latest driver for your model.
2. 2 If updating doesn't help, perform a clean driver installation. Download the latest driver from the manufacturer's website, then use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove the old driver. Boot into Safe Mode, run DDU, then install the new driver. This ensures no leftover files cause conflicts.
3. 3 Check your GPU temperature: Download a monitoring tool like MSI Afterburner or HWMonitor. Run a stress test (like FurMark) and monitor the temperature. If it exceeds 85°C, your GPU may be overheating. Clean the dust from your GPU fans and ensure proper case airflow.
4. 4 If you have overclocked your GPU, reset it to default clock speeds. Use MSI Afterburner or your GPU's software to set the core clock and memory clock to stock values. Overclocking can cause instability and TDR errors.
5. 5 Increase the TDR timeout value: This gives your GPU more time to respond before Windows declares it hung. Press Windows key + R, type 'regedit', and press Enter. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers. Right-click on the right pane, select New → DWORD (32-bit) Value, name it 'TdrDelay', and set its value to 10 (decimal). This sets the timeout to 10 seconds instead of the default 2 seconds. Restart your PC.
6. 6 Check your power supply: If your GPU isn't getting enough power, it can cause TDR errors. Ensure your PSU has enough wattage and that the PCIe power cables are securely connected.
7. 7 If you're using a laptop, ensure it's plugged in and not in power-saving mode. Go to Settings → System → Power & battery, and set the power mode to 'Best performance'.
8. 8 If the issue persists, try rolling back to a previous driver version that worked. In Device Manager, right-click your GPU, select Properties, go to the Driver tab, and click 'Roll Back Driver' if available.
