- 1 First, check your internet connection. Open your web browser and try to visit a website. If you can't, fix your network connection first.
- 2 If your internet works, try restarting your router and modem. Unplug them, wait 30 seconds, and plug them back in.
- 3 Press Windows key + I to open Settings, go to 'Network & Internet', and check your connection status. If you're on Wi-Fi, try connecting via Ethernet to see if that helps.
- 4 Open Command Prompt as administrator (Win+R, type 'cmd', press Ctrl+Shift+Enter). Type 'ipconfig /flushdns' and press Enter. This clears the DNS cache, which can resolve connection issues.
- 5 Type 'netsh winsock reset' and press Enter. This resets the Winsock catalog, which can fix network connectivity issues.
- 6 Type 'netsh int ip reset' and press Enter. This resets the IP configuration.
- 7 Restart your computer.
- 8 If the error persists, check your firewall settings. Temporarily disable Windows Defender Firewall (Control Panel → System and Security → Windows Defender Firewall → Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off) and try again. If it works, add Windows Update to the allowed apps.
- 9 You can also try using the Windows Update Troubleshooter: Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Windows Update → Run.
